  It is necessary to design the future society, envision the necessary processes, and seek the appropriate elemental technologies to achieve carbon neutrality. The Society of Chemical Engineers, Japan (SCEJ) is working to develop and deepen specific case studies, technologies, and academic systems by strengthening cooperation with local industries and communities.

  Following symposiums held at every annual meeting and fall meeting since March 2020, we will hold a symposium with invited lectures, requested lectures, and a panel discussion on energy and environmental innovation and its social implementation in the afternoon on September 13th, the day before the 57th Autumn Meeting. In this symposium, we will explain "Carbon Independence Vision 5.0 : Circular Transformation from Hard-to-Abate Industries" and discuss pathways to advance its implementation.

  The symposium will be open to the public with free of charge to all participants, and we hope that many of you will join us in discussing the future society that chemical engineering will innovate, and that these activities will contribute to the promotion of interdisciplinary research and academic development of the society.

  On the 14th, a general session will be held on-site. We look forward to presentations and discussions covering a wide range of topics related to carbon neutrality, including technology development, dissemination and implementation, industrial and social transformation, and evaluation methods. Those who wish to present are kindly requested to submit an abstract for the session HQ-11.

• SP-2 [Special Symposium] Potential for Startups in the Field of Chemical Engineering

  Startups are increasingly expected to serve as a driving force for sustainable economic growth. The Japanese government designated 2022 as the "First Year of Startup Creation" and formulated a five-year plan to increase the number of startups tenfold, positioning them as key players for innovation.

  In particular, expectations are rising for deep-tech startups, tackling deeply rooted social challenges with advanced technologies. These startups typically face long timelines before product launch, require capital on a scale an order of magnitude larger than that of conventional ventures, and often struggle with issues such as mismatches between R&D and management talent, as well as communication gaps between researchers and investors.

  This symposium will feature talks addressing topics such as the human-resource challenges surrounding startups, corporate efforts in open innovation, the hurdles faced by academia-origin startups during formation, and the challenges they encounter in scaling their businesses. From the perspective of the Society of Chemical Engineers, Japan, a community where academic researchers with deep-tech seeds gather, we aim to discuss opportunities for fostering startups and driving societal transformation.

This symposium will have speakers who are making pioneering efforts toward a data-driven society from various viewpoints and discuss future research and development.

  As climate change mitigation and the promotion of a circular economy become urgent global priorities, the chemical industry is called upon to transform toward "sustainable substance production systems" that balance the maximization of energy efficiency with the minimization of environmental impact. To achieve this transformation, it is essential to integrate Process Intensification (PI) -which radically advances equipment and operations-with Information Theory and AI, which accelerate the understanding and optimization of complex phenomena, and Environmental Analysis (such as LCA), which multi-dimensionally validates their viability. These should not be treated as independent technologies but fused into a single, cohesive system.

  The objective of this symposium is to bring together the latest research across these three domains and discuss the future of next-generation substance production systems from a systems-theory perspective. We invite research presentations from a wide range of fields, including experimental analysis that transcends traditional frameworks, the advancement of modeling and simulation, and the proposal of evaluation methodologies aimed at social implementation.

  In this symposium, we call for lectures on innovative "conversion, storage and utilization" technology of material and energy, such as electrolytic synthesis, electrodeposition, electrolysis, fuel cell, secondary battery, solar cell, flow battery. We accept lectures widely from the view point of nano-scaled material development as well as energy system development and design. Furthermore, we plan to discuss about the contribution of chemical engineering to these technologies.

  Fluid phase properties and solvent characteristics are crucial insights not only in the development of chemical and materials processes but also in the design of final products. In recent diverse product development landscape, accelerating process development through the use of information technology is essential. This symposium will focus on accelerating the process from raw material and solvent molecule exploration and selection to process development. We will share information and discuss the modeling of fluid phase properties and solvent characteristics using information technologies such as machine learning and image analysis, as well as the rapid measurement of data necessary for information technology and the construction of soft sensors. Outstanding student presentations will be awarded a student award.

  Long-term issues such as social healthcare costs, short-term issues such as the development and stable supply of drugs, and advanced technological issues such as regenerative medicine and personalized medicine - in order to tackle these issues, methodologies are required to rethink and redefine the ideal state of med & pharma. In this symposium, we will discuss the role of systems approaches to pharmaceuticals, with overviewing the latest research at the cellular, process, and societal levels. In particular, this year's symposium will deepen the discussion on the interconnections of the systems across temporal and spatial scales.

• ST-29 [Trans-Division Symposium] Synergy between Reaction and Separation for Process Intensification Chemical Reaction Engineering Separation Processes

  The combination of separation and reaction is expected to be one of the key technologies for the process intensification to achieve avoidance of chemical equilibrium, improvement of reaction yield, resource-saving, compactness, and energy saving. This symposium invites leading researchers and calls for presentations to introduce the latest research for synergy between separation and reaction. Through the latest research examples of reaction-separation processes combining reactions with membrane separation, distillation, and other techniques, we aim to facilitate broad discussion on the development of innovative technologies that contribute to process intensification.

  Plasma processing is gaining increasing attention as an advanced technology for materials synthesis and environmental solutions. Its applications span nanoparticle synthesis, functional thin films, surface treatment, hazardous substance removal, and energy fields such as hydrogen production.

  This symposium will provide a platform to discuss both fundamental and applied aspects of plasma processing and to explore new directions in chemical engineering. Excellent student presentations will be awarded the Plasma Symposium Best Student Award.

  This symposium aims to facilitate active discussions on a wide range of research and technological developments related to thermodynamic properties, phase equilibrium, transport properties, interfacial properties and other physicochemical properties relevant to chemical engineering, which are essential for the design and development of chemical processes and functional materials.

  Topics also include experimental methods and apparatus, data analysis (including machine learning), theoretical modeling, and simulation techniques.

  The distillation process, which is the most widely used process in petrochemical complexes and chemical products manufacturing, has a wide variety of separation systems, equipment structures, and operating methods, resulting in many troubles. While many companies have accumulated know-how on these problems, it is often not sufficiently transferred to the next generation. In this symposium, we will introduce troubles in the distillation processes and their solutions. In addition, gas absorption processes will be covered. We will discuss on troubleshooting, including preventive approaches.

This symposium will discuss future research directions and implementation possibilities through collaboration among medicine, engineering, and pharmacy, with a scope spanning from drug discovery support to pharmacotherapy.

  This session is integrated with the "oral session," and due to the capacity of the hall, your presentation may be changed to an oral presentation.

  The poster session will be held in two parts (first and second halves), with a 30-minute overlapping period between them. For this reason, each presenter is limited to one poster presentation.

  An award ceremony is scheduled to be held in the afternoon on the day of the poster session. Student presenters are kindly requested to attend.

  Crystallization technology is a fundamental technology essential for the production, separation, and purification of materials across a wide range of fields, including pharmaceuticals, food, and electronic devices. This symposium will address recent advances ranging from fundamental studies of crystallization phenomena that influence material properties to industrial crystallization technologies, providing a platform for broad discussion. In this symposium, lecture time is 12 minutes for speech and 7 minutes for discussions.
